    Before leaving home

Check weather, fishery availability, current rules, licence requirements and any closed areas. Prepare spare hooks and safe rigs, a headtorch, suitable clothing and your phone or emergency contact.

    Arrive and assess

Walk the banks where permitted and spend time looking for carp. Choose a swim where casting and landing are safe. Confirm whether surface fishing, bait boats, keepnets, leaders or specific baits are restricted.

Fish the plan, not the clock

Use a sensible initial presentation and bait quantity. Note casts, indications, fish activity and changes in conditions. Move or change rigs only with a reason and without disturbing other anglers.

    Pack down responsibly

Account for every hook and lead, collect all line scraps, remove litter and inspect your equipment. Record what worked and what you would change next time.

    Questions

Should I pre-tie rigs at home?

Yes, if you inspect them again before use.

What matters more: bait or location?

Neither guarantees success, but finding fish is usually a sensible first priority.
